In a patriarchal context, most Muslim authorities condemn acts and attitudes associated with modern term homosexuality. However, many Muslims live and worship in social contexts where patriarchy is increasingly weak, individual rights are steadily protected, and gender equality is gradually assumed. These new conditions allow us to rethink the status of homosexuality in Islam as a lived religion, and invite us to reconsider past norms in the light of justice and faith.
