Feb 23, 4:30 PM: Rochona Majumdar, "Anger and Its Aftermath in Indian Cinema"

2022 Iris Marion Young Distinguished Faculty Lecture Rochona Majumdar Associate Professor, South Asian Languages and Civilizations and Cinema and Media Studies "Anger and Its Aftermath in Indian Cinema" The angry young man emerged in Indian art films of the late 1960s and early 1970s. He went on to enjoy a robust on-screen life in the star persona of Amitabh Bachchan. In this lecture, I look at a different genealogy of this figure. There was another filmic angry young man--dalit/ adivasi (indigenous)--whose presence has not elicited much analysis and whose youth is not even recognized as such.
