The University has recently been subjected to a slanderous poster campaign directed against students and faculty by something called the âHorowitz Freedom Center.â This is an organization dedicated to harassing, smearing, and intimidating members of the American academy who are critical of Israel, sympathetic to progressive politics, and oppose racism, sexism, and fascism in all their forms. People who hold these views are denounced as âpolitically correct,â and now the Horowitz Center has elevated this to the charge of being âSupporters of Terrorism.â In addition, the University of Chicago itself has now been grouped with ten other elite American universities as a supporter of terrorism.
We are convening this public discussion to explore strategies for fighting back against this wave of defamatory hate speech. We hope you will join us. Professor W. J. T. Mitchell will join the discussion and Dima Khalidi from Palestine Legal, along with Saree Makdisi, a well-known scholar who is studying the structure of legal discrimination in the state of Israel.
